Damn adverts

I went to the cinema recently, and it only then hit me how much that whilst I don’t really watch much TV, when I do, I rely totally on the remote-control to zap the adverts. I can’t watch an advert for 5 seconds - I have to flick over, or switch on teletext, or do something.

It was really annoying in the cinema - I was really missing having a remote control to skip over them.

We all (in the UK at least) are familiar with the above phrase on any letters from banks etc.

But why the need for the almost tautologic phrase ?

How clear is the distinction between the 2 ?

As everyone knows, when a TV programme or a film finishes, we get to see the credits.. Everyone is credited down from the writer, to the person who made the tea the day the usual tea-person was off sick.

All very nice and all that but why ? What is more important about a TV/film production than anything else ?

When I buy a mars bar in Tescos, it doesn’t list the person who boxed the batch, or the name of the delivery driver.

When I buy a bottle of vodka, it doesn’t mention the name of the quality control supervisor, or the person who designed the label, or the person who checked the caps were screwed on properly!

Don’t worry, it’s not bad news, but it should be backwards

You know, whenever someone phones or calls on an official capacity, such as the school calling about your child, or the police calling about something, even if there is no serious issue, they always cause panic in the first few instances of the call.

They should really give the news backwards:

Imagine the following phone call:

School: Hello, Mrs Smith ? It’s Patty from the administration department of Erinsborough Highschool here

Mrs Smith: Oh no.. What’s wrong

School: It’s about your son

Mrs Smith: Oh no… Johnny!

School: It’s ok, he’s fine, he’s just forgotten to bring dinner money today

Now, if the facts were presented in reverse order… :

School: It’s ok, he’s fine, he’s just forgotten to bring dinner money today.

Mrs Smith: Ahh, which one?

School: Johhny

Mrs Smith: And you are?

School: This is Patty, from the administration department of Erinsborough Highschool.

Watching television on television

What is it with tv programmes. On ANY programme or film, if for some reason they start paying attention to the television (for example, a news report comes on the TV that is applicable to the plot) they always, always, switch the TV off after said report is over.

How often does that happen in real life ?

If you had the TV on in the background, and suddenly something comes up that perks your interest, do you then switch off when it’s finished ?

NO! NEVER!
